Five Nights At Freddy’s Movie: Why Scott Cawthon’s FNaF Film Could Flop

By on

After a number of duds, it’s hard for fans to get excited about any video game movies. While this year’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie looks promising, the trailer which used Kanye West music turned a lot of fans off. There is also a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie coming out, which could be promising and scary, but given the nature of video game movies, it could also flop big time.

For one, the game doesn’t really lend itself to a standard three-act narrative. Films have three simple acts: beginning, middle and end, but the FnaF games don’t really follow that. The games do have a storyline, but they’re always from the perspective of someone in the first-person who is only doing his job in the restaurant.

The lack of news for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is also a bit worrying. Fans would have expected some casting news by now. The film already has a director, but the lack of any news regarding who will star in it or anything about shooting has some fans worrying about the movie’s status. Some even thought the film was cancelled due to the lack of any updates regarding it, though a trailer in the near future would help.

It also doesn’t help that the game series has gotten less popular as the years have gone by. The first game might have been a success, but the next two were received okay. The fourth game wasn’t as liked as the first three games, while the spinoff RPG FnaF World got plenty of negative reviews. The reviews were so bad that the spinoff RPG eventually became a free download.

Will the movie be a good one? Only time will tell, especially since there is no trailer yet. There’s nothing to say about the film until some news regarding it comes out. Fans can only be optimistic about it until they’ve seen it. For the sake of video game movies, we can only hope it transcends the previous ones.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie still has no release date, while the upcoming game Sister Location is still on schedule for October, contrary to rumors that it has been cancelled.
