An awkward and embarrassing moment recently took place in a beauty pageant in Neiva, Colombia where the runner-up bitterly snatched the crown off the head of the real winner and placed it on top of her head.
That moment was all captured on video:
As you can see in the video, Yeimy Lizeth Silvestre Gamez, the first runner-up who represented Colombia?s capital Bogota, was seen smiling and posing for photographers with Valentina Bonilla Neira, a 20-year-old law student who was named the winner of ?The National Bambuco Queen,? an annual beauty and folk dance contest in the city of Neiva.
After a few moments, Yeimy then turned to Valentina and reached out for Valentina?s tiara and grabbed it.
But the awkward moment didn?t end there.
Yeimy then placed the tiara on her head and waved at the audience. Satisfied that she?s made a statement?no doubt to express her disapproval of the judges? decision?Yeimy then removed the tiara and tried to shove it back on Valentina?s head before storming off the stage.
Valentina handled the embarrassing situation quite well. In fact, she looked surprisingly calm and collected the entire time. Poised and gracious, Valentina even let Yeimy have her 15 seconds of fame. When Yeimy brusquely thrust the tiara back on her head, she remained amazingly composed. Valentina even managed to blow a flying kiss to Yeimy as her disrespectful colleague went out of the camera?s view.
The moment certainly was controversial, but it didn?t entirely ruin Valentina?s crowning moment. Valentina then turned to the audience and gave a big warm smile as though telling everyone watching her, ?I?m okay.?
Now that?s how real beauty queens behave.
According to the Daily Mail UK, the Bambuco Pageant and Folkloric Festival ?started in 1961? and ?is held at the end of June as part of traditional festivities to mark the Feast of St. Peter and St. John.
?Contestants come from each of Colombia’s 32 departments, and are judged on several parameters. These are beauty, general knowledge, popularity, punctuality and the performance of two types of traditional dances. It attracts people from across Colombia as well as hundreds of tourists.?
