A new set of characters are joining Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and the 3DS. This time, we have characters from Fire Emblem: Awakening namely Lucina and Robin. Captain Falcon will also be joining the Super Smash Bros. ranks. The announcement was made today by Nintendo and Team Sora on the official Super Smash Bros. website.
Lucina was first introduced in Fire Emblem: Awakening which launched for the Nintendo 3DS in January of 2013 while Robin is a named version of the characters that players create at the beginning of the game. Robin is the avatar that players use throughout the Awakening story and can be played as either a male or a female character.
Captain Falcon was first teased in a video but is now listed as an official fighter in the game?s website together with Robin and Lucina. Chrom, who is another character from the Awakening game, was shown fighting with Captain Falcon and it was not yet determined whether Chrom would be an alternate for Lucina or would be an assist trophy. Nintendo went on to confirm that Chrom will not be a standalone playable character.
The total number of characters now stands at 36 fighters including the recent additions of Lady Palutena from Kid Icarus, Pac-Man, and the Mii Fighters.
Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Super Smash Bros., revealed in a post on the Miiverse that they reached out to Ubisoft for artwork for an in-game trophy of Rayman from the popular series. Ubisoft then responded by sending Team Sora a sparkling new 3D model that was rendered specifically for the game.
Gamers are very excited for the release of the game this coming October 3 for the Nintendo 3DS and for the holidays for the Wii U. Fans of the game are already very active and have expressed excitement for what the game will be able to offer.
There were 39 total characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and if the same trend is to follow, there should also be at least 39 characters for this coming game. We?ll know for sure as more updates are released.
