Finding Dory, the sequel to the smash hit Disney film in 2003, has now garnered an official release date at Disney?s D23 Expo.
The Finding Dory Release date is now penned to show in theaters on June 17, 2016 with Ellen DeGeneres reprising her role as Dory. Both Nemo and Marlin will be returning to the seas to help Dory in her quest to find her family, Time reported.
According to EW, the trailer shown by Pixar at the Disney D23 expo showed Nemo and Marlin resuscitating Dory in her deep-sleep. Upon waking-up, the forgetful fish, Dory, finally remembers something about her family: I don?t remember what I remembered, but I remembered that I remembered something,? Dory said.
The two, however, remembers Dory murmuring in her sleep about her mother being in Monterey, California. Nemo and Marlin helps Dory travel to California, however, Dory gets separated and ends in an ocean sanctuary facility where wounded animals are treated. The fellow fishes in the sanctuary must help Dory escape to help find her forgotten family.
According to EW, these are the new characters for Finding Dory:
- Hank (Ed O?Neil), an octopus who has a missing leg
- White Beluga Whale (Ty Burrell) who thinks the reason why he has a lump on his head is because of a head injury.
- Destiny (Kaitlin Olson), a whale shark
?Why Is There A Finding Nemo Sequel?
The Original director of Finding Nemo, Andrew Stanton, will be helming the sequel. He announced at the D23 expo that he initially thought the ending of Finding Nemo was a ?closed circuit?, however, this changed when he wondered about the fate of the forgetful fish, EW reported.
?I wanted to know that if this charming forgetful fish ever got lost again, that she would be okay, that she would find her way home,? Stanton said. ?And at the end of Finding Nemo, I wasn?t confident about that. So that?s when I knew I had another story.?
Previous rumors surrounding Finding Dory all became true, from the story of Dory finding her parents as well as meeting new characters such as a giant squid and a whale shark. The only remaining rumor to be proven is her parents being housed inside the Marine Institute of California. It was also rumored that the story will be based on a documentary titled ?Blackfish?.
Finding Dory is just one of the many announced movies from Disney and Pixar at the D23 Expo 2015.
