Square Enix has finally shown some gameplay footage of the upcoming Final Fantasy 15 Episode Prompto DLC during their E3 2017 stream. Episode Prompto will also feature a gun-focused gameplay which turns the title into a third-person shooter. Square Enix also revealed Episode Prompto’s release date.
Brief Final Fantasy 15 Episode Prompto gameplay was showcased on the Final Fantasy 15 Universe E3 trailer. Final Fantasy 15′s playable gunner also features a weapon wheel. This makes Prompto similar to Noctis who can pick weapons on the fly. Prompto could be seen using a submachine gun and a sniper rifle to beat his foes.
Final Fantasy 15 Third Person Shooter
Due to Prompto’s unique systems, Final Fantasy 15 slightly feels more like a third-person shooter. The few seconds we saw prompto use his submachine gun showed a tight third-person shooter camera angle, like what we see in games like Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War.
Additionally, both Prompto’s submachine gun and sniper rifle share the same weapon wheel spot, though we’ve yet to see him use the weapon bound to his left weapon wheel shortcut. Potentially, Final Fantasy 15 Episode Prompto might follow the weapon equipment layout of most shooters where there’s a primary firearm, secondary firearm, and a melee weapon. Meanwhile, Prompto’s movement could be set in third-person to help players orient themselves and aim at foes better. Episode Prompto could be Square Enix’s take on shooters, which is a genre that Square Enix developers rarely tackles.
The gameplay pace shift seems to be the trend for these Final Fantasy 15 DLCs as Gladiolus also plays differently in his DLC episode. If this trend continues, the unannounced Episode Ignis could also provide players with his Dagger-Spear-Magic Spell battle style. Square Enix might be preparing its fans to play its online co-op For now, we’ll have to wait for Square Enix to announce more details about the upcoming Character Episode DLCs.
