We can all agree that Lionsgate is one of the best films companies to have ever been founded and established. But things are beginning to change, and the company does so as well. Lionsgate?s gaming designs are now finally becoming more and more apparent. Just a few days ago, the production company made an announcement that it will become part of the extended Series A financing round of Next Games, a?Finnish gaming development company.
Peter Levin, the President of the Interactive Ventures and Games of Lionsgate said that this partnership with the gaming firm is “a logical next step“, seeing that the company is making efforts to expand its horizons.
Levin stated that “Their management team has a proven track record of creating popular and successful brands for some of the industry leaders in the gaming space, and their passion, innovation and entrepreneurial culture are a perfect fit with our own”.
“We see them as a prolific source of the next generation of games, creating exciting and engaging properties based on our franchises as well as new content that we develop together?, Levin continued.
Several Disney, Supercell, and Rovio veterans are the ones responsible for putting up and co-founding Next Games, just last year. The CEO of the gaming company, by the way, is Teemu Huuhtanen, who is also the former vice president of mergers and acquisitions of Rovio. Earlier this year, the studio was already able to raise a whopping $6 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Jari Ovaskainen, an early investor in Supercell as well as IDG Ventures.
For those who are wondering, the funding that came from Lionsgate is not actually the first tie up of Next Games to the film and the TV industry. In the earlier stages of the company, AMC Networks Ventures had also provided participation. The first ever announced project of the game developer was the mobile game app that has been based on The Walking Dead TV series from AMC.?
