For weeks now, the sequel to the EL James Novel-turned-movie Fifty Shades Of Grey has been making headlines because of apparent delay of filming Fifty Shades Darker, making its Valentines 2017 preview seem like an impossibility.

There are many reasons for the delay. First, it was reported that Jamie Doronan, who plays Christian Grey, the smoldering boss/protagonist with a penchant for a little spanking, almost didn?t reprise his role because his wife was apparently getting jealous of Dakota Johnson (who plays the coy and innocent Anastasia Steele).

It didn?t help when news came out that the onscreen romance was actually becoming real. Of course, the actor denied the rumor, but now he is taking his time to make sure he is spending time with his family.

And then somewhere along the line, the film?s original director, Sam Taylor-Johnson bowed out of the movie franchise because of creative differences with author E.L. James, who wanted her husband part of the production.

Fifty Shades Darker Movie Director Confirmed?

Now however, the movie seems like it?s already seeing the light at the end of the tunnel as news are coming out that the movie is about to get a director at last. According to Screen Rant, three names have surfaced to take the helm of Fifty Shades Darker: James Foley, Mark Pellington, and Tanya Wexler.

Foley is (for the time being) the frontrunner for the job,?according to the article.

Foley has had a long and varied career, going back to the early 1980s, and his big screen credits include At Close Range, Glengarry Glen Ross, Fear and Confidence. His most recent directorial credit for a movie was the Bruce Willis/Halle Berry bomb Perfect Strangers back in 2007, although he has been busy directing TV shows (including 12 episodes of Netflix?s?House of Cards).

Pellington?s past movies include Arlington Road, The Mothman Prophecies, Henry Poole is Here and I Melt With You, along with a long list of music videos. Wexler directed the 2011 comedy Hysteria ? about the invention of the vibrator ? and is the only woman on the director shortlist.

Whoever will be chosen as the final director of the movie, one thing is clear however, the author will be taking charge mostly of the movie?s creative direction.

In fact, James? husband, Niall Leonard?is reported to take on the role of screenwriter for this.
