The Fifty Shades Darker trailer has been released and it looks to be delivering on its promise of a darker sequel.
The adaptation of E.L. James? surprisingly successful novels recount the burgeoning relationship between business tycoon, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), and docile fresh graduate Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). Grey, who has a penchant for BDSM, is instantly attracted to Steele?s reserved and timid personality and pursues her relentlessly.
The new trailer picks up where Fifty Shades of Grey left off. Christian and Ana had broken up in the first movie, and is now working toward getting back together, but on Ana?s terms. It appears she is tired of the games of control that Christian is so fond of, plus she doesn?t want any more secrets, too.
Just like the first movie, which opted to show less sex and more BDSM contract negotiations?which were completely violated in the end, the trailer promises the same theme of introducing complications and threats to Ana?s safety.
Fifty Shades Darker from Christian?s Point of View
While viewers expect the movie to show sex as was written in the provocative books, it looks like Fifty Shades Darker is going the same path as the first movie. Fifty Shades of Grey earned $570 million worldwide, probably from curiosity on how the provocative theme will be projected on the big screen.
Author E.L. James announced last week that she will be releasing a new book?which is actually just Fifty Shades Darker?but from Christian?s point of view. Probably this time around, trying to capture more of the male demographic? As we know, anything sex-related is heightened from a male?s point of view.
Kim Basinger joins the cast as she plays a Mrs. Robinson-esque seductress. Bella Heathcote also makes creepy appearances based on the trailer, as she plays one of Christian?s former submissive who is going through a mental breakdown. What led her to succumb to the crazies is a question for those who haven?t read the books. But if Christian Grey looked as hot as Jamie Dornan, we don?t really need to ask why.
Fifty Shades Darker hits the cinemas on Valentine?s Day.
