Fallout 4 Vault 81 is filled with bugs that not only prevents quests from being triggered, it also prevents players from accessing the area if they used their Charisma to get inside. If you have been regularly deleting your old save files, there?s a fair chance you won?t be able to get inside Vault 81 until Bethesda patches the game.
Fallout 4 Vault 81 Entrance Bug
Upon entering the outside gate of Vault 81, players will see a ?Vault Door Controls? to open the gate. Upon activating the ?Vault Door Controls? with the use of a Pip-Boy, players will be prompted in a conversation in which the overseer requires the player to give 3 fusion cores in exchange of granting access to enter the vault.
Players can use their charisma to get inside Vault 81 without giving their 3 fusion cores, but doing this will prevent you from using the elevator to head deeper into Vault 81. I have tried going out of the area, saving and reloading my save file, and sleeping for more than 24 hours but to no avail.
- Unable to enter Vault 81
- Unable to use V.A.T.S after using Pip-Boy to enter Vault 81 (and Vault 114)
- Calvin disappears
- Quests in the vault fail to progress
How To Get Inside
Say goodbye to your 3 fusion cores and a few hours of progress if you deleted your previous save files. As of writing, the only way to open doors inside the vault is if you don?t use your charisma to get inside the vault.
Other Bug Fixes
For those unable to open the Vault 81 gate which causes players to be unable to use V.A.T.S, here?s a useful guide from Sjurgenson1 on Imgur on how to fix the problem. Some players said that those who are unable to progress quests acquired inside the Vault must first finish the ?Here Kitty Kitty? quest.
