The Samurai Warriors series has been lucky enough to endure many years of success, even if people are getting tired of the same formula. Hack-and-slash games often fall victim to this kind of problem; however, they are sought after for the same reason they are villified. Repetitive, hack-and-slash fun is both a blessing and a curse.
It is amazing to think, that since the first Samurai Warriors game came out (cashing in on the success of Dynasty Warriors), a lot of years have passed. Now, we welcome the arrival of a new Samurai Warriors game; or should we say, the re-package of an old classic into something new but definitely not borrowed and not blue. Koie Tecmo of America has recently released Samurai Warriors 4: Special Anime Pack to mark a decade of the series. It is another PlayStation exclusive: it?s coming to the PS4, the PS3, and the PS Vita.
The release was made with the fans in mind. It?s also double serving: it?s meant to deliver a treat to the fans, while honoring the series itself. The content available and coming, along with this release, is as follows: A specially made packaging to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the series; an anime, Samurai Warriors: Legend of the Sanada; The Samurai Warriors 4 game and the Official Soundtrack (CD); A special costume pack(DLC) for Gracia, Ina, Nene, and Oichi; an old costume pack(DLC), for Yukimura, Mitsuhide, Nobunaga, Noh, Oichi, and Ranmaru; and an Edit Parts Pack 1(DLC) which allows for a Western themed armor, as well as facial customization.
The game is feature-packed, as well; a lot of characters from the Japanese releases of Samurai Warriors (Nobuyuki Sanada comes to mind) joins the players, as well as major overhauls of appearance and battle move-sets for characters like Nobunaga Oda and Yukimura Sanada. Battles are also made more exciting with three new moves to execute; the super-fast Hyper Attack, as well as the Rage Attack one can do when the Spirit Gauge is full.
Aside from these, there are new additions to the story and the background. Battle Modes have been added to the game, as well as new additions to the Story Mode, exploring the development of relationships between characters during Story Mode gameplay. Try the new Chronicle Mode, which leaves the option of customization entirely to the character. The Create Character system becomes even more relevant than before thanks to this mode.
Samurai Warriors 4 is an Omega Force development, and is made available in North America by Koei Tecmo America. PS3 and PS Vita users will be able to get the game through the PSN store, and the PS4 standard and Special Anime Pack editions will be available through retailers.
