The premiere party of Empire?s season 2 was held on Wednesdayat the Howard Theatre.
According to a report by Fox 5 DC, Tony Perkins, Shawn Yancy, Allison Seymour, Tucker Barnes, Kevin McCarthy and DC radio legend Donnie Simpson were all there for the highly anticipated first episode of the new season. It was a star-studded affair that included cameo appearance by Chris Rock, Marisa Tomei and Al Sharpton.
Some of the highlights of the Empire premiere stated by USA Today?magazine are as follows:
- Cookie in a gorilla suit – The episode opened with a #FreeLucious concert/rally that saw Cookie hit the scene inside a cage wearing a gorilla suit.
- All those Cameos – Within the first 10 minutes, Rev. Al Sharpton, Andre Leon Talley and Don Lemon flashed their faces. Later, Marisa Tomei showed up for her recurring role and we were “treated” to a song by Real Housewives of Atlanta tagalong Miss Lawrence.
- Chris Rock as thug or Canniball ?Remember last season when Cookie got all shook up because of that ominous rose that was left on her doorstep? Chris Rock was behind that. The Empire writers want us to believe that the slight comedian is the thing that goes bump in the night. Oh, and did we mention he’s a murderous cannibal? Yeah, they came thisclose to jumping the shark with that one.
- Anika Gets Pimped Out –Not only did the former Mrs. Lyon make the almost-future Mrs. Lyon bump and grind in her church clothes with Tomei’s character Mimi, she also forced Anika into bed with her to secure the takeover deal. Sadly, it didn’t work — but Mimi still appreciated the effort.
Well, looks like this season of Empire will be worth watching.
