It seems Marvel is really dead set on including actress Emily Blunt in its Marvel Cinematic Universe. After passing up iconic roles like Black Widow and Agent Peggy Carter, we now hear her name was again, this time as a possible Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel?s real name).
Emily Blunt as Captain Marvel
Many seem to believe that the British actress would be perfect in playing the superheroine know for her strength,?endurance, stamina, flight, and a ?sixth sense.?
Although there?s no official word yet from Marvel, but during The Meet The Movie Press podcast, hosted by Umberto Gonzalez and Mark E. Reilly, the duo was discussing the upcoming female-led action film when Emily was mentioned as a possible Carol Danvers.
?It doesn?t make sense yet because it?s been a rumour but I?ve had somebody tell me that Emily Blunt is Ms. Marvel, that it?s a done deal,? said Mark.
In 2014, Blunt herself neither confirmed nor deny the possibility of the role with The Vulture. She said, ?Oh! No one?s offered me that officially, so it?s?very unofficial,? Emily said, ?I think it?s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure.?
Captain Marvel in MCU
There?s so many instances when Captain Marvel could have been part of MCU already, specially if look at this possible plot/origin shared by Movie Pilot:
?An officer in the United States Air Force and Security Chief of a restricted military base…Danvers is caught in the explosion of a Kree device, after being kidnapped… Danvers sustains serious injuries…Danvers resurfaces with superhuman abilities and becomes the hero Ms. Marvel…Carol Danvers initially possessed superhuman strength, endurance, stamina, flight, physical durability, a limited precognitive “sixth sense”, and a perfectly amalgamated human/Kree physiology that rendered her resistant to most toxins and poisons.?
We know that Kree was already introduced via a big role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and even TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are harboring a 100-year old Kree specimen, so this can be looked at as a possible introduction to Ms. Marvel?s character.
What?s more exciting is that Captain Marvel?s character is associated in both the Avengers and X-Men, so the possibilities are endless at this time.
Emily Blunt, who played beautifully in Edge of Tomorrow, has already proven that she can play a kick-ass character, so being Captain Marvel makes a lot of sense.
A standalone Captain Marvel movie is expected to be released in 2018. Who do you think should play Captain Marvel? Sound off in the comments section below!
