It seems like the upcoming Skyrim remaster is the only updated last-gen title that Bethesda will be releasing for a while, as the company has revealed that The Elder Scrolls 6 could be the next game they work on. This is a pretty smart move on the part of Bethesda and should please fans who want to see a current-gen Elder Scrolls game.
During Quakecon 2016, Finder asked Bethesda if the success of the Skyrim remaster will lead to more updated classics like Oblivion or Morrowind. While the developers considered remastering the older titles, they claimed that it would be too difficult to make them look good, and they would rather work on the sixth game of the acclaimed RPG series.
There’s also the fact that Oblivion and Morrowind are fairly old games. While they have plenty of depth and a huge open-world to explore, a lot of the animation in the two games are dated and would not look good on a current-gen console or a modern PC. Bethesda would have to remake them from the ground up if they want them to be good, so working on Elder Scrolls 6 is the better choice.
Bethesda is no stranger to the world of HD re-releases. Aside from the upcoming Skyrim remaster, the developers re-released Dishonored for the PS4 and Xbox One to hype up the arrival of the sequel, which comes out later this year. Since they were more recent last-gen games, it was easier to update them to the current-gen consoles and computers.
Skyrim: Remastered Edition will be released on October 28 on the PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Those who already purchased the PC version of the game on Steam will be able to get the remastered edition of the RPG for free.
Fans have been patiently waiting for Elder Scrolls 6 to be announced, so this was a nice teaser from the company. It wasn’t an official announcement of course, since the sixth game will probably have a nice subtitle, like how Elder Scrolls 5 has Skyrim or how Elder Scrolls 4 is called Oblivion.
