EA Games is getting serious in making more action-oriented games as they build new IPs. This is what EA Studios? Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund said as EA aims to fill more on their gap in their game portfolio. The will be tagging Jade Raymond?s Motive Studios in making these new IPs, Motive Studios is Canadian video game development studio owned and operated by Electronic Arts which was founded by Jade Raymond, a former Ubisoft executive and Assassin?s Creed Producer.
“If you look at the biggest segment in our industry, which is action, we don’t have a lot, EA is not known to make gigantic action games like Assassin’s Creed or Batman or GTA or those types of games that are really big. The strategic direction that we put in motion is to expand our portfolio more into that segment, to see what we can bring to gamers that maybe hasn’t been done before.”
Based on the interview conducted by IGN, EA is aiming for open world games, primarily on the likes of Grand Theft Auto, when asked on how they can accomplish such feat, Soderlund stated that “you need a leadership and people that have done this in the best and they’ve done it successfully in the past. That, coupled with a large ambition to invest in new IP. We want to. We’re building a lot of new IPs today but we want to invest more money into new IP.”
Right now, Motive Studios is currently teaming up with Visceral for an unannounced Star Wars project, this will be led by former Naughty Dog director Amy Hennig. Jade and her development studio is also working on a new game for EA, so far no added information was mention on this mysterious game, but this could be one of EA?s biggest project in the coming years.
