E3 2017 Lineup: Scalebound Appearance Possible As Microsoft Renews Trademark For Cancelled Game

Scalebound Cancelled

When it comes to blockbuster exclusive titles to look forward to, Microsoft’s Xbox One doesn’t have much for the foreseeable future aside from State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, and Crackdown 3. Xbox One owners had high hopes when Platinum Games introduced a promising action game years ago. That game was Scalebound but it has been cancelled already. However, there are new developments regarding the title ahead of E3 2017.

NeoGAF user Lichter shares that the trademark for the cancelled title has been filed for a renewal by Microsoft. This is pretty odd since Scalebound has been cancelled back in January. This new development brings a glimmer of hope for the potentially amazing title.

Fans of the title should feel a bit of hope with the renewal of the trademark. Every 6 months after a registration of a trademark, which is Scalebound in this case, the company that has the trademark needs to provide proof that it is being put to use in the country it’s been registered in. If the company fails to provide that proof, then it could request for another extension of the trademark for 6 more months.

Basically, what this means is that Microsoft is still possibly willing to hold on to the trademark for the anticipated title. While it does not confirm that the game has been taken out of development limbo, it at least gives fans hope that the game will eventually arrive.

If the game has truly been cancelled then surely enough, Microsoft doesn’t need to go to the trouble of extending the game’s trademark anymore. Microsoft extending the game’s trademark somewhat shows their interest in the cancelled game, even at the slightest bit.

This new detail arrives just a few weeks before E3 2017. A surprise announcement from Microsoft and Platinum Games regarding the game is very unlikely but it shouldn’t be impossible as well. Considering how much fans have been disappointed at the game’s cancellation, it’s obvious that the world wants to see Scalebound.

Despite Scalebound’s trademark renewal, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. Window Central reports that an insider recently said that the game isn’t in development. “I can confirm via our own sources, however, that Scalebound is not in development by Microsoft or a ‘trusted team,’ as stated in the report,” Windows Central wrote.

The action adventure game puts players in the shoes of Drew and his journey through Draconis. The highlight of the game is put on the relationship between Drew and his dragon companion named Thuban. Thuban can help out Drew in combat but it can also be commanded by the player to do a specific set of actions. Aside from amazing visuals and setting, the game boasts a solid gameplay.

E3 2017 will be held from June 13 to 15. Microsoft’s press briefing will be held on June 11. For more gaming news, keep it right here on The BitBag.
