The upcoming Mortal Kombat X was unveiled officially earlier this month. During Sony?s E3 2014 presser, however, a new trailer had been shown offering a glimpse into the title?s gameplay and new characters.
The Mortal Kombat game franchise undoubtedly has a very avid following. With this new video, it seems that its fanbase has blown up with excitement. Hardly a day has passed, but IGN?s YouTube post showing off the said Mortal Kombat X trailer already has more than 300 thousand views. In the said footage, all the gory action that is quintessential to the Mortal Kombat series is present.
This development is somewhat anticipated since this is the debut of the Mortal Kombat X to current generation consoles. Because the trailer was shown at Sony?s press conference, it was apparently shot using PlayStation 4. In the video, a fight between perpetual enemies Sub-zero and Scorpion was showcased. What really struck viewers was the extra gruesome factor that had been added to the game. Icky scenes showing eyeballs being ruptured, rib cages splintering, and spines breaking have all induced flinches from the audience.
According to game series creator Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat X can be expected to run at 1080p and 60 fps (frames per second), which is the current trend in today?s high-end video games. Boon further confirmed via Twitter that the upcoming game will be powered by a version of Unreal Engine 3 customized by developer NeatherRealm Studios.
Possibly the most interesting part of the trailer is its introduction of two new fighters. Although no names have been given out, the two characters were shown brawling with each other on a seaside dock. One fighter exuded a hulky, brutal persona with a pesky little creature riding on its back. The other was a female fighter who appears to have some sort of affinity for bugs and creepy-crawlies given the quantity of those organisms crawling and flying around her all the time.
Apart from this brief Mortal Kombat X trailer, no release dates have been divulged for the new title. There are speculations that this game will be launched in 2015. In a press release from Warner Bros. Interactive entertainment, Mortal Kombat X is said to be in development on different platforms, including Windows PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
