Jinger Duggar caused quite a stir lately for simply wearing a pair of pants. This is hardly news for most people, but it is to a family that only allows its female members to wear long skirts and dresses like the Duggars.
For those who missed it, the 23-year-old was recently pictured in Waco, Texas, with sisters Jessa Seewald, 24, and Jana Duggar, 27. While the latter two were sporting conservative skirts, Jinger stood out in a pair of army-green pants and a red jacket.

But what’s the problem with such garments? Why is it a big deal to the family?
If you’ve been following the family, you’ve probably noticed that the wardrobe on their TV show doesn’t change much. Men wear pants and women are in long skirts or dresses. As with their many family traditions, this all springs from their religious beliefs.
Modesty is a virtue in the Duggar household, meaning that sexy parts must be covered at all times. In their book Growing Up Duggar, co-authors Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger explained why they dress the way they do.
“We do not dress modestly because we are ashamed of the body God has given us; quite the contrary. We realize that our body is a special gift from God and that He intends for it to be shared only with our future husband… We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we wear an undershirt. We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over. We don’t want to play the peekaboo game with our neckline.”
Anna Duggar, who’s married to disgraced eldest son Josh, even goes to the gym wearing a skirt over her loose-fitting workout pants. Daughter Jill Duggar-Dillard who’s a volunteer firefighter had her uniform pants tailored into a skirt to avoid violating the family dress code.
Jinger has previously been photographed with husband Jeremy Vuolo wearing shorts. Of course, it blew the Duggar nation’s minds but apparently, that was better than sporting pants with the Duggar family around.

Some publications have labeled her “rebellious,” further claiming her choice of fashion was a bold statement of defiance. Inadvertently, it drew fans’ attention to her sister Jessa, who was criticized for her style choices.
On a website called Free Jinger (via Yahoo), one fan said: “I used to think Jessa dressed the best of all of them but ever since she started having babies there are more and more pictures of her dressing more like Jill does. And I know after you have kids you want to wear more comfortable clothes (I have two littles so trust me I know) but her style changed dramatically.”
That didn’t end there, though. A separate Duggar Family news says she was also heavily criticized for charging her followers in her talk about how to live and dress in a modest way just like her famous family and her. As it turns out, Jessa, 24, is set to host “Fashionably Modest with Jessa” at Heavenly Highway Tabernacle in Ohio and she’s charging attendees $20 to hear her speak.
Numerous fans have slammed the Duggar sibling, saying it’s ironic to cash in on fans then talk about how modest one’s lifestyle is. Others brushed off the charging and pointed out about how immodest her fashion style while pregnant was. She reportedly wore tight, stretched t-shirts so she is no place to teach about modest fashion anymore.
The event happening on June 24 is open only to women. Guests will be able to take pictures with Jessa during a meet-and-greet session.
