With two DLC packs left, fans are wondering if a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will be succeeding the second one. Despite some flaws, both games ended up becoming extremely popular titles with fans, so a third game is quite possible. Seems like Bandai Namco is going to offer anime fans an alternative with Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker.

Though the gameplay looks pretty different, there are a few interesting similarities with Xenoverse, like four-on-four online matches. Some fans could argue that it has more in common with Battle of Z, since there isn’t a create-a-character mode. Of course, Battle of Z basically laid the groundwork for Xenoverse, so the comparison is an appropriate one to make.

Naruto: Xenoverse?

Bandai Namco might want to wait and see if the demand for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is high, since they’re still releasing DLC for Xenoverse 2. Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black, Zamasu and Bojack of all people have been confirmed for the third “Super” DLC pack. The final DLC will likely have a new story chapter detailing the Future Trunks/Goku Black arc, since it was hinted at already.

It will be interesting to see if the Xenoverse/Battle of Z-style gameplay works for Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker. Mechanics-wise, the brawling looks much different from Dragon Ball, with flying and beam attacks replaced with wall running and jutsu. Given the title and trailer, it’s safe to assume that characters from Naruto Shippuden and Boruto will be in the game.

Ninja Fights

Only time will tell if we get a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, since the company promised to support the second game for a year. A third game isn’t out of the question, though some fans want a more traditional Dragon Ball fighting game on current-gen consoles. It will be a while before we hear any news about a third game, though new DLC and the 100 plus Parallel Quests should help.

As for Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, the game could provide a fun experience for fans of the anime/manga. It’s an interesting break from the Ninja Storm series, which were always fun, easy to play fighting games for fans. That being said, it’s easy to see why some fans might be tired of those games, so a new one with a completely different gameplay has appeal.

Shinobi Striker doesn’t have a release date yet, though it will be coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC for the West. A Ninja Storm Trilogy was also announced for PS4, but it’s not clear if that is getting an international release. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4: Road to Boruto and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 are available now.
