Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Producer Explains Lack Of Classic Dragon Ball Content, DLC Still Possible

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

While Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 seems to be a huge improvement over the first game, some fans are disappointed. It’s not because of the new characters or the gameplay changes, but the lack of classic Dragon Ball content. The game incorporates elements and characters from Z, GT and Super but almost none from classic Dragon Ball. One of the game’s producers has now explained why.

In a video interview with Crunchy Roll, one of the producers stated that incorporating classic Dragon Ball characters was too difficult. All of the characters from the game can fly, but the gang from the original series could not. Goku was a child at the time and had to use the Flying Nimbus Cloud to get around. The developers would have to make a new system that would make using these fighters fair.

Possible DLC?

The characters might not appear in the disc of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, but they could still be DLC. The producer stated that these classic characters could be added if there?s enough fan demand. It’s a move that fans will definitely appreciate, especially if it results in the inclusion of Kid Goku, Master Roshi and more.

Bandai Namco did announce a US$29.99 season pass for the game. It will supposedly contain four DLC packs, which will add more characters and Parallel Quests. Could any of these characters come from classic Dragon Ball? We will have to wait and see.

Other Missing Characters

Aside from classic Dragon Ball characters, there are also missing fighters from Z and GT. The game has Cell’s first and final form, but not his second one. It was also confirmed that Frieza would only have his first form and last form, along with his new Resurrection F transformation.

GT characters like Goku, Super 17 and Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta have been confirmed. Pan, Trunks and the Shenrons will likely be included as well, since they were DLC in the first game. That being said, the game does not have Baby or Uub, who were major parts of the GT anime. It’s possible that these characters could be DLC, but we will have to wait for an official announcement.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is slated for an October 25 release on current-gen consoles. The PC version will be available on October 28. Pre-ordering the game grants players exclusive access to Goku Black, the new villain from Dragon Ball Super.
