E3 2017 is already well underway and we’ve already seen quite a handful of interesting titles. One of the titles that caught every gamer off guard was a new Dragon Ball title being worked on by Arc System Works, the same developer that brought Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. Dragon Ball FighterZ is a new take on the series and its new gameplay style could pay off.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is a 2.5D fighting game set in the Dragon Ball universe. Matches are 3 on 3 and players can freely swap between characters in-game. It’s unlike the usual Dragon Ball fighting games we’ve gotten throughout the years as it is no longer set in full 3D environments. While it’s a unique formula for Dragon Ball, fans are looking for a few new features for the game.
The Dragon Ball Xenoverse series does provide players with a pretty decent character lineup spanning characters from several arcs, but the game’s roster is nothing compared to the ones in the Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi series. For Dragon Ball FighterZ, fans want an expansive roster yet again.
One of the best features of the Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi series is that it had one of the bigger character lineup for the franchise. It included characters from the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. Aside from that, less popular OVA characters like Bojack, Garlic Jr., Hirudegarn, and others were even part of the roster.
The next game should have a very expansive roster once again. Seeing as Dragon Ball Super is introducing more and more characters to the game’s lore, there are a ton of possible good characters for the next game.
Story Mode True To The Lore
The series has provided some exciting storylines that make up for a really good story mode. While the alternate timelines introduced in Dragon Ball Xenoverse were exciting, fans would want to relive the Dragon Ball saga without any major changes in the storyline. Arc System Works should try to avoid tinkering with the lore of the series.
Seeing as there’s such a huge number of content for the entire Dragon Ball series, the possibility of DLCs is alway high. Fans are always thinking that other characters might come in DLC packs and this is something that the developer should avoid. DLC exclusive characters are never good for the player base of fighting games.
