Dota 2 The International 4: Chinese Media Leak Team DK’s Strategy

By on

The Dota 2 The International 4 tournament is going through its last phase this coming weekend but there has been some controversy that has been reported recently. A media crew from the Chinese eSports company Gamefy entered the off-limits rooms of the players of Team DK just before their match with Evil Geniuses (EG) and started filming. The crew didn?t have permission from Valve (the game organizers) to enter the room, much less start filming. They went on to record and broadcast Team DK?s core strategy not just for the match but for the entire competition.

This has compromised DK?s standing in the tournament and could potentially cost them millions of dollars in losses should the strategy that they employ be used against them. The first prize for the event is in the $4 million range.

Gamefy has apologized for the mishap and sent a statement on their official site saying that the footage was uploaded accidentally. A reddit user was kind enough to translate the statement below.

?Dear DK players and beloved dota 2 fans,

Gamefy’s film personnel entered and began filming the player’s rooms without the permission of Valve and Team DK, and accidentally uploading the sensitive information. We sincerely apologize for our actions.

We acknowledge the problems and frustration that were caused to team DK by the video, and we are fully aware of the hurt that was caused to dota 2 fans. According to Valve Corporation’s rules and regulations, the personnel responsible cannot continue to participate in TI4 news reporting; We will also strictly adhere to the rules of the organizing committee. Without further permission from valve, we will not enter player’s rooms to conduct any kind film work.

Lastly, we would hope for forgiveness and understanding from all of team DK, all dota 2 fans and lovers, and other TI 4 players; and let us put our passion and enthusiasm into the reporting of the next phase of the tournament.

We hereby apologize.?

Team DK is a very strong team but Dota 2 is a strategy based game and the right strategy can be the deciding factor between winning and losing. How they fare in the remaining rounds of the tournament will depend on whether other teams will try to exploit the leak or not.

Do you buy Gamefy?s ?accidental? upload? Let us know in the comments.
