Divergent Movie Series News: Allegiant Ending Change Confirmed? Film Strays From Veronica Roth?s Vision?

By on

Fans of author Veronica Roth were angry after the renamed last entry of the Divergent?movie, Ascendant, was accompanied by a tagline which heavily implied that the ending of the film may not follow the events of Roth?s book. Roth has now spoken on Tumblr and it seems that she has now confirmed the ending change rumors, Seventeen reported.

?I know changes always make fans of the books ? and the author! ? nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love, Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing,? Roth said on Tumblr.

Roth also vaguely explained what the new tagline for the last film meant. ?What does this mean? Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes. But it?s really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them,? Roth said.

Earlier this week, MTV revealed the newly renamed two-part Divergent movies based on the book Allegiant. The moniker Divergent Series Allegiant Part 1 and Part 2 has now been dropped. Part 1 is now titled Divergent Series: Allegiant with the tagline ?Break the boundaries of your world.? Part 2 is now titled Divergent Series: Ascendant with the tagline ?The end is never what you expect.?

Tris (Shaielene Woodley) perished in Roth?s book, Ascendant. Roth previously spoke on her blog post?to address the rants from her fans who believed that Tris shouldn?t have died, Hypable reported.

?I?ve said before that this ending was always a part of the plan, but one thing I want to make clear is that I didn?t choose it to shock anyone, or to upset anyone, or because I?m ruthless with my characters- no, no, no, no. I may have been ruthless with other characters, in the past, but not with her, never with her. And I wasn?t thinking about any readers when I wrote this book; I was thinking about the story, because trying to meet the expectations of so many readers would be paralyzing.?

Before heavy rumors of an alternate ending arose, a petition popped online saying they wanted an alternate ending where Tris lived. They wanted the scene to be included in the home release of the movie. They said that while the ending of the book was good, it was too depressing and having an alternate ending would brighten their day.

Will the petitioners be happy with the possible different ending of the Divergent Series? Divergent Allegiant will be released on March 18, 2016 while Ascendant hits theaters in 2017.
