We already know that a bunch of new content is coming to Diablo 3, but what about a hypothetical Diablo 4? Many fans were hoping that a sequel to the famed-RPG franchise would make its debut during Blizzcon, but Blizzard?s actions show that the company believes the latest entry still has a lot of life in it.
Will Diablo 4 Ever Make It?
Back in 2013, a former Blizzard employee told fans during a?Reddit AMA session that he believed the company was ?done? with the franchise. Keep in mind that this answer was given before the release of the Reaper of Souls expansion and the shuttering of the base game?s problematic auction house system. During that time, it was very easy to picture Blizzard shelving the franchise due to the negative feedback Diablo 3 was getting from fans.
However, in the years since, Diablo 3 has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to huge content updates like the season mode, greater rift challenges, and a comprehensive rework of its loot system. Could the turnaround brought about by Reaper of Souls have encouraged Blizzard to rethink their stance on Diablo 4 and the future of the franchise? No one can say for sure at the moment.
The new ?Rise of the Necromancer? class pack revealed at Blizzcon doesn?t release until a yet-to-be revealed date in 2017. After that, the game?s future becomes hazy once again. Some fans have already criticized the so-called ?game-within-a-game? Diablo 1 remake ? the other major Blizzcon announcement ? for being a lazy effort. Is a single new class really enough to tide Diablo fans over for the whole of next year?
What do you think? Are you happy that Blizzard is continuing to support Diablo 3? Or should they just wipe the slate clean and move on to Diablo 4? Let us know in the comments below.
