Diablo 3 Auction House Closing For Good On June 24

By on

For Diablo 3 users who still have stuff in the auction house, you should have received an email from Blizzard that goes something like this: ?The Diablo III Auction House is closing for good on?June 24, 2014. It looks like you?ve still got items in the Auction House. Please visit the Completed tab to claim them before June 24, or they?ll be gone forever!?

The email from Blizzard is a friendly reminder that their auction house will shut down for good this coming Tuesday. The auction house was closed back in March and since then, no transactions have taken place. People may get confused as to what this latest email from Blizzard means. Blizzard explains that the ability to Bid, Buyout, and list new auctions in the auction house was indeed disabled last March 18, 2014 but the auction house window remained active so as to allow players adequate time to retrieve their items and gold under the Completed tab. If items aren?t retrieved by Tuesday, it?ll be gone for good.

The Diablo 3 auction house was a bumpy ride for the game. The concept was good though: to give players an access point where they can use their gold to power up their characters or to use real money to purchase items for their characters while at the same time being officially supported in the game itself. This decision was because there was a really big black market for Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction and a lot of people were getting scammed because it wasn?t supported officially in the game. In order to help the players more, Blizzard came up with the auction house. It was a nice idea and gave players a way to dump items they didn?t want so that they could have some gold or money to buy things that they actually did want. The problem however was that there were a lot of bugs and exploits. The most notorious incident was back in May of 2013 when there was a gold duping bug that caused a really big problem for the game?s economy.

At the end of it all, the auction house would cause more harm than good in the long run so Blizzard decided to remove it completely.

If you still have great items in your auction house tab, make sure to collect them now.
