It looks like Deus Ex Mankind Divided is going to be much larger than its predecessor. At the recently concluded Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, developer Eidos Montreal held a panel and discussed the technical innovations used in the highly anticipated action-RPG.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided Is Huge
DualShockers? summary of the presentation states that the game world will feature many indoor and outdoor locations. While not at the scale of a true open-world title, the maps in the game will be densely packed, with the biggest location coming in at one square kilometer in size.
The Deus Ex franchise has always had a globetrotting vibe, with the player bouncing around many of the world?s major cities. Having a single, giant open world obviously doesn?t make sense for this type of game world. 2011?s Human Revolution took place in Detroit, Montreal, and a fictional Chinese city known as Hengsha, while previous games have counted New York, Hong Kong, and Cairo as playable locations.
Mankind Divided?s full list of locations hasn?t been revealed yet, but we do know that the Czech capital of Prague will be one of the main cities you can explore.
The game takes place two years after the events of Human Revolution, with augmented humans ostracized by society after the events of Panachea incident. Protagonist Adam Jensen now works for a global counterterrorism outfit called Task Force 44, whose goal is to quell uprisings started by members of the augmented community. To bridge the gap between the two games, Eidos has commissioned a comic book series that follows Jensen?s exploits prior to the start of Mankind Divided.
