It looks like Sony and Activision?s exclusive content agreement will continue in Destiny Rise of Iron. During Bungie?s recently concluded Destiny livestream event, the company confirmed that PlayStation 4 players will have access to timed exclusive content not available on Microsoft?s Xbox One. What exactly this content is will be unveiled at a later date. Our bet though is during Sony?s E3 presentation next week.
Rise of Iron will have PS4 Exclusives
This was of course to be expected. Both the Destiny base game and last year?s Taken King expansion shipped with several PlayStation-only bonuses like exclusive Strike missions, multiplayer maps, and weapons. If the timed exclusivity is anything like previous releases, expect Rise of Iron?s PS4-only content to remain that way for quite some time. For example, it took a full year for the ?Dust Palace? strike from the base game to make its way to the Xbox One. Likewise, The Taken King?s PS4 exclusive strike ?Echo Chamber? won?t be coming to Xbox?until fall 2016, according to the Destiny wiki.
However, there is some bonus content that players from both systems will have access to. The revamped Gjallarhorn rocket launcher is making a comeback in Rise of Iron. The powerful heavy weapon was one of the more popular tools in Destiny?s arsenal during the first year of the game, but later updates introduced new exotic weapons that made it obsolete. All those who pre-order will receive the newer version in a unique Iron weapon skin.
That?s pretty much it as far as bonus content goes. Destiny Rise of Iron releases on September 20 on both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Activision and Bungie said the expansion will not release on last-generation consoles, but the company will allow them to transfer their progress on PS4 and Xbox One.
