Descendants of the Sun star Song Hye Kyo won an online competition titled Goddess of Asia. The contest pitted her against Chinese superstar Zheng Shuang and Girls Generation?s Yoona.
Goddess of Asia
The 34-year-old Hallyu actress bested other Asian beauties who were mostly in their 20s. Because of her victory, Hye Kyo will be featured in a top Chinese magazine alongside the other top 10 contenders.
The k-drama superstar received the title due to fans who flocked to the Goddess of Asia website and campaigned for her heavily online.
Insiders claimed that the battle was close since Hye Kyo had stiff competition from Zheng Shuang and her Chinese fans. Her South Korean counterpart, Girls Generation star Yoona, was also among her close competitors.
Aside from being supported by her loyal fans, it is likely that Hye Kyo emerged victorious because of her mainstream popularity as the lead star of the globally successful k-drama Descendants of the Sun.
Descendants of the Sun sequel?
In related news, the actress is rumored to have signed up for the hit wartime drama?s second season.
Reports claim that the sequel will focus on the rumored family of her and leading man Song Joong Ki?s characters. The two played Mo Yeon and Yoo Shi Jin respectively.
The second installment?s story will reportedly narrate their struggles to balance family life and their careers. They will supposedly be more conflicted between their duties as public servants and as parents.
News of Hye Kyo?s participation in Descendants of the Sun season 2 contradicted previous reports.
Many fans got disappointed last summer due to reports that she and Joong Ki have declined to participate in the sequel. According to rumors, her leading man supposedly got tired of constantly being on the public eye.
Soon after this came out, Hye Kyo supposedly turned down returning too, citing conflicts in her work schedule.
