Rumors about Descendants of the Sun season 2 and the TV drama?s movie adaptation have been circulating for months. However, a recent development has revealed that the two major projects might not happen anymore due to political reasons.

The hit wartime-themed series gathered so many fans from all over the globe by the time that it ended last April. This has reportedly motivated execs from KBS Network to produce a second installment, which is rumored to air in 2017. According to Channel Head Jung Song Ho, Descendants of the Sun season 2 will also be their way of thanking the show?s dedicated fanbase for the groundbreaking success of season one.

Aside from the TV sequel, the popular K-drama?s success has also reportedly prompted movie producers from China to come up with a Descendants of the Sun movie. The full film feature will reportedly be directed by veteran Chinese director Zhang Yibai.

After all these exciting reports came out, fans will inevitably get disappointed over ongoing rumors claiming that both projects might not push through.

Descendants of the Sun season 2

The latest report revealed that the Chinese government has allegedly issued a ban on South Korean entertainment. This is supposedly because of the South Korean government?s decision to cooperate with America in deploying a U.S.-developed missile shield.

In retaliation, Chinese authorities will allegedly prohibit South Korean entertainment patronage. The national media regulatory agency has reportedly already ordered TV stations in Guangdong province to no longer approve new program applications featuring South Korean pop stars.

To make matters worse, even upcoming shows that have already been accommodated will allegedly be postponed.

However, the report from Movie News Guide pointed out that there is still no official document supporting all the abovementioned orders. The ban was supposedly only communicated verbally by officials from the State Administration of Press, Publication, ?Radio, Film and Television, which is the regulatory office responsible for screening TV and movie projects.

K-drama?s exposure in China and the huge clout of loyal Chinese fans are known to be major economic boosters for Korea. Because of these, fans can only hope that rumors regarding the Descendants of the Sun ban are not yet official.
