Descendants of the Sun star Song Hye Kyo recently celebrated Korean Independence Day by doing something charitable.
The 34-year-old actress reportedly donated 10,000 brochures to Utoro Village in Japan last Monday. The materials contain information about a historic Korean site in Japan, which visitors can get for free.
According to Allkpop, Hallyu icon made the donation in partnership with Professor Seo Kyung Duk of Sungshin Women’s University. The latter reportedly created the brochures while Song Hye Kyo financed its mass production.
The two first worked together for a charity project in New York back in 2015. These were also for brochures donated to the Korean Methodist Church and Institute. The group was reportedly which was founded by Koreans who are living in New York.
Song Hye Kyo and Professor Seo also previously made a similar project in China. This was for a donation of 10,000 Korean language brochures to the Provisional Government Building of the Republic of Korea.
According to Song Hye Kyo, she hopes that the brochures will help more people understand Korea?s independence story.
Apart from doing charity works, the TV superstar is also expected to return for Descendants of the Sun season 2. The hit wartime-themed drama gathered phenomenally high ratings when it ended last April. Because of its global success, KBS is reportedly planning to do a second installment in 2017.
Song Hye Kyo is also not the only Korean actress who is known for her charitable efforts. Just recently, Park Shin Hye announced a major project all the way in the Philippines.
The 26-year-old will reportedly establish a philanthropic center in Manila that will support less-fortunate children through educational activities. The charitable establishment will be dubbed as ?Shin-hye Centre.?
The star reportedly visited the Manila site last March. Construction of the charity center is expected to be done by October this year.
The project of Park Shin Hye is said to be her way of thanking fans for supporting her. Her most recent show is SBS? Doctors, where she stars alongside Kim Rae Won. The medical themed drama has become so successful that it has even been dubbed as the next Descendants of the Sun.
