The South Korean television drama Descendants of the Sun has been one of the huge surprise hits as of late and is starting to take Asia by storm. Not only has the show dominated the rankings in South Korea but it has already reached high viewership in other Asian countries as well such as China.
According to a report from Yonhap News, the hit television show has soared past 30 percent viewership in Seoul, South Korea which is a lot faster than another popular South Korean drama ?My Love from the Star?. The report came after Nielsen Korea showed the data which compared the two popular television shows.
The hit drama show has increased its viewership every week as its fifth episode recorded 27.4 percent viewership across South Korea which was garnered a 3 percent bump as compared to its previous episode.
Not only has Descendants of the Sun conquered television viewership across Asia but its popularity has likewise resulted in the success of its original soundtrack. According to Yibada, three songs from the original soundtrack of the television show has topped the charts not only in South Korea but also in China. The three songs which have gotten much acclaim are ?Always? which is performed by Yoon Mi-ra, ?Everytime? a duet performed by Punch and Chen and ?This Love? a beautiful ballad which is being sung by Davich, a popular K-pop duo.
The record-setting pace of the show both in TV viewership and in the music charts have surprised everyone and fans of the show continue to be excited about the upcoming episodes of the show. This means that the ratings for the new show will only continue to increase and could break even more records in the coming weeks.
