Descendants of the Sun cast member Song Joong Ki recently thanked his fans in the Philippines via a video greeting.
The wartime drama already had its finale last April. However, Descendants of the Sun Philippines only began airing a few weeks ago via local channel GMA 7. In fact, there have been reports that several fans had mixed reviews to it because of certain changes that GMA 7 made for the Filipino adaptation.
Nonetheless, lead star Joong Ki expressed his gratitude to their loyal Filipino viewers by sending a short clip. He stars as Captain Lucas Yoo alongside Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, who plays Kang Mo Yeon.
?Philippines fans, hello. Thank you for loving Descendants of the Sun here in GMA,? the actor said in the video greeting, which was shared by GMA News.
?I hope you keep on watching and loving Descendants of the Sun, only here on GMA,? he added. ?Once again, thank you so much.?
Apart from the show?s generally good run in the Philippines, the Descendants of the Sun cast member recently faced a controversy in China.
Just recently, Joong Ki?s fans got surprised over reports that his advertisements for Chinese mobile firm Vivo have been banned. ?
The tech giant signed the Hallyu heartthrob as their brand ambassador last May. The endorsement is reportedly worth 22 million CN? or around $3.3 million in US dollars.
Vivo did not specify why Joong Ki?s ad materials will no longer be used. However, the actor will still get the full amount of his endorsement fee.
Many believe that Vivo?s decision to pull out Joong Ki?s campaign is related to the Chinese government?s recent ban on South Korean entertainment. According to reports, China is allegedly upset that Korea is supporting America?s deployment of a U.S.-developed missile shield.
Fans are worried that the ban will lead to the cancellation of the second season of the Descendants of the Sun. This is due to how Chinese viewers comprised a huge part of the show?s audience.
