While Konami continues to tick off their fan base with Metal Gear Survive, Hideo Kojima seems to have moved on, thanks to his upcoming game Death Stranding. The game comes next after Kojima?s cancelled Silent Hills, but no one knows what the game will be about, though Norman Reedus returns to work with Kojima. It seems like he won’t be the only big name actor in it though, as various tweets may have confirmed that the game would have the star of Hannibal.
Various tweets, including one from Kojima, seemingly confirmed that Mads Mikkelsen will be in Kojima’s upcoming PS4 game. If this turns out to be true, it will be great news for fans of the actor or those who enjoyed his performance in Hannibal. He will also be the villain in November’s Doctor Strange from Marvel Studios.
Considering that Death Stranding already has Reedus, who most fans know as Daryl from The Walking Dead, it’s clear that a lot of star power is being put into this game. One has to wonder if that is needed, since Kojima’s name is usually enough to get people interested in games. Kojima has also worked with Keifer Sutherland and renowned director Guillermo Del Toro.
Then again, his PS2 game Zone of the Enders and its sequel didn’t exactly sell like hotcakes, though it did get a remastered collection on PS3. This is Kojima’s first original IP in the longest time, so it is somewhat understandable that he would try to get a number of big name actors to raise awareness for the game.
Still, there is plenty of excitement for the game. Kojima gained a lot of sympathy after he wasn’t allowed to accept an award for his work in Metal Gear Solid 5, so there’s a good chance that this game could sell better than Zone of the Enders. Will it sell better than Metal Gear? That’s doubtful.
Death Stranding has no release date yet, but it will be coming to the PS4. It’s not yet known what type of game it will be, though given its connections to the cancelled Silent Hills, it could be a survival horror game.
