Death Stranding is one of the most highly anticipated titles coming to the PS4, despite not having a gameplay trailer. Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame has stated that the game would have it’s own genre, which is intriguing. This has lead to many fan theories being made and how it will play uniquely, possibly using the DS4 lightbar.

No recent triple-A PS4 game has ever really used the lightbar for anything important, so this would be a first for the console. A Reddit fan has shared an interesting theory made after observing the two trailers released for the game. Fans that can also check out a video of the theory by DimGray Room, one of the theory originators.

Death Blinking

Players that have seen the Death Stranding videos have noticed a specific light on the character’s handcuffs. Theories state that the light is the one in the DS4 lightbar of the system’s controller, since players are handcuffed. Basically, the player and the controller are the handcuffs, which are used to control the characters in the game.

In a way, it’s like the player is forcibly controlling the character to do specific actions, providing a meta experience. Guillermo del Toro’s character also has handcuffs, which could mean he is the second player in the game. Kojima previously stated that the game would have online play and co-op in some kind of capacity, so that’s a possible theory.

Theory Confirmation?

With the lack of any gameplay videos thus far, it’s hard to disprove this fairly interesting Death Stranding theory. For the sake of originality, it would be nice to see this in the game, since it would feel immersive. Unfortunately, it’s only a theory, so we will have to wait for a bigger reveal for more details, possibly in E3.

All that’s known about the game is that it’s very star-studded, with Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Guillermo del Toro. Stefanie Joosten is also rumored for the game, making this a semi-Metal Gear Solid 5 reunion, which is nice. The amount of celebrities in the game is a bit of an odd move, but Hideo Kojima directing them should interest fans.

Death Stranding is a PS4 exclusive, but currently has no release date, so it’s not clear when it will come out. In the meantime, fans can get Metal Gear Solid 5 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. A GOTY edition was also released for current-gen consoles.
