The Death Note movie is pushing through and some interesting details about it have emerged online. Apparently, former ?Heroes? and ?Hawaii Five-O? actor Masi Oka is getting a role in the Death Note movie. In his interview pertaining to his exit on the ?Hawaii Five-O? series, he said ?Whatever is ahead, I?m very fortunate to be able to do things also behind-the-scenes, creating some TV shows and also producing a lot of movies. I recently finished producing Death Note for Netflix, which I have a part in as well.?
Also the producer of the Death Note movie, Oka said he also strives for Japanese actors to have a chance in the Hollywood scene. Despite not disclosing his role in the new Death Note film, several comments referred to his casting as another Asian white washing in an American film.
Death Note Movie Cast and Characters
Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Masi Oka will play the role of Touta Matsuda; the police officer that is assigned to investigate the Death Note cases. According to Geek, the character of Matsuda is quite the variation in the film, providing comic relief to the scenes.
The rest of the Death Note movie cast include Nat Wolff (Paper Towns) as Light, Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys) as Mia, Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) as L and Paul Nakauchi (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Watari. Willem Dafoe will also join the cast, but as the voice behind the death god Ryuk. Ryuk is responsible for dropping the Death Note, which started the whole story of the series.
In May, Masi Oka was announced as the producer of the Hollywood live action film Death Note. Since then, the actor has expressed his plans for the film, including the aforementioned variation of race in the actors that will play the characters.
