DC?s side of the movie fence is getting noisier and noisier as the first collaboration movies are coming. It?s already 2015, and 2016 looks closer and closer from this side of the fence. The better for DC, who might get their crack at Marvel sooner or later as they prepare their arsenal. The said arsenal includes movies where one or more superheroes/villains might be seen?namely Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
Now let?s take a closer look at those two movies.
As per Cinema Blend, Henry Cavill plans to be making Superman his role for a very, very long time. The actor had first signed up for the nth Superman origin story Man of Steel, and he sees himself donning the cape and the ?S? on his chest for a pretty long time. Things on the set of Suicide Squad, however, hadn?t been so rosy. As per Comic Book Resources, all is not well as Tom Hardy reportedly packs up and leaves after not finding things to his liking.
Henry Cavill: Superman for a Long Time
Henry Cavill is definitely enjoying his time as Superman.
He reiterated this again on an article on Cinema Blend, citing that his time as Superman won?t end with just stand-alone movies. He wants to do it even in the growing Cinematic Universe, as per Cinema Blend. This was what he revealed during the BAFTA Award, where The AnglophileChannel, as per Cinema Blend, interviewed the actor.
Having a cornerstone actor stay-on as one of its most iconic characters is a good thing for DC, and in turn, for Warner Brothers. Henry Cavill also stands to benefit from this; with a lot of movies lined up for DC?stretching all the way up to 2020?Henry Cavill will be assured of almost a single picture in every 1 or 2 years.
Tom Hardy Quits Suicide Squad
The Suicide Squad earns its first casualty, but it?s not on the screen. It earns its first casualty in Tom Hardy, the man who was supposed to play Rick Flag. As per the Comic Book Resources report, Tom Hardy failed to see the benefits of the Suicide Squad, and quit the set because of differences on how Rick Flag should be shown in the Suicide Squad movie.
Tom Hardy thought Rick Flag should have more screen time in the movie whereas he was only pegged as a supporting player as per the current script. This leaves a void in the roster which is already loaded with stars like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Cara Delevingne. However, all is not lost; reportedly, aside from the on-going chase for Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, they are targeting Jake Gyllenhaal as replacement for the disgruntled Hardy.
DC?s troubles and triumphs are seen as a learning process for the comic book publisher. It is certainly an exciting year for them?what with next year being a promising year, a year which could be make or break for their fledgling cinematic universe. Knowing DC, however, they won?t just take everything Marvel throws at them lying down.
