The hacktivist group Anonymous is said have called for a nationwide Day of Rage protests on Friday, July 15, 2016. The infamous hacktivist group that previously targeted ISIS after terrorist attacks in Paris, has lately planned to protest the recent police-involved shooting of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Rumors of Anonymous nation wide ?Day of Rage? protests began circulating after a online video surfaced of the group calling for protests in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and the victims of police brutality.

The video featuring graphic images of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling being shot in two high-profile, officer-involved shootings, issues a call to ?citizens of the United States, in conjunction with the Black Lives Matter movement as well as other civil rights activists, to participate in a day of action against the injustices of corrupt officers.?

However, since the video was not issued from any official Anonymous page, it has put into question whether these protests are for real or rather just rumors. Snopes said the recent call ?to protest is in fact identical to one that was circulated two years earlier after the shooting of teenager Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

In addition an more official Anonymous account on twitter clarified that they are not organizing any protests.

@YourAnonNews wrote: ?There is no such thing as an ?Anonymous day of rage? TheAnonMessage isn’t a credible source, he has been spreading false information before.? –

But as Snopes further points out that Anonymous unlike other organizations doesn?t have central command so almost anyone can organize the protest, there could possibly be some substance to the rumors.

Furthermore, The Department of Defense on Thursday issued a stern warning to its personnel to steer clear of tomorrow?s demonstration outside the White House.

?Please be advised the [US Northern Command] has issued a threat advisory informing DOD personnel that a series of protests has been scheduled to be conducted across the United States on July 15, 2016,? reads an advisory issued by the US Army.
