The campaign mode in Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 3 is shaping up to be an interesting mix between the first two games in the series. When it was revealed a few months back, fans mentioned how Dawn of War 3?s gameplay looked to be moving away from the more focused, tabletop feel of its predecessor by opting to return to the large-scale RTS action of the original.
Dawn of War 3 Campaign Details
In a recent chat with?the Zero Review, Brent Disbrow, the lead designer behind the campaign, spoke about how the mode will bring together the best elements from both games.
?We wanted players to have spectacular large scale battles, so to do that you?ll need to have a lot of linemen, but we also really liked the hero units in Dawn of War 2 and the kind of agency they gave players on a one to one basis; sort of the tide-turners. So, we put both of them together and are introducing new mechanics to support that,? he explained.
?That?s kind of our goal right now, do something that serves as a ?best of? in some ways but with modern aspects. Every mechanic that we looked at from previous games, we asked the questions ?how does this work? How can we improve it? And how can we add counter-play to it???
Based on his answer, it looks like players who prefer Dawn of War 2 will still have plenty to like in the sequel.
Set on the planet of Acheron, Dawn of War 3?s campaign will put players in control of three of the Warhammer universe?s main factions: the Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar. The narrative concerns each group?s attempts at uncovering a doomsday device hidden somewhere on the planet. Over the course of the story, players will get to control each of the factions.
