Darksiders 2, developed by the now closed THQ, has been positively received by both fans and critics when it released back in 2012. As the game has been remastered by Nordic Games for the PS4 and Xbox One, many are thinking if paying the full price is worth it again for those who have already finished the game before.
Is there enough substantial changes to make the game worth another purchase? Should it be bought by those who are unaware of the Darksiders game?
Darksiders is a hybrid action role-playing hack and slash game. Think of the game as Zelda with God of War gameplay. The last gen Darksiders 2 version was well received as critics praised the great gameplay as well as the well-crafted exploration and ?epic? scale of the game. This version garnered an 84, 83, and 81 on Metacritic for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC respectively.
Darksiders 2 Deathfinitive Edition Review
What do critics think about the remaster? The game keeps intact everything that people loved and hated about the last gen title. What?s hugely been improved is that the graphics now look as great as the PC version with a retooled 1080p and improved textures, VideoGamer stated in their review. However, don?t expect something the graphics to be upgraded like the how Naughty Dog handled the Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection. You can check the comparison between the last gen and the deathfinitive edition in the video below.
If you were expecting a smoother game experience than before, don?t get your hopes up. The game only runs at a locked 30fps. There?s still slight stutter in some parts of the game, although, they aren?t game-breaking, Video Gamer stated.
This version of the game also has all of the DLC provided before so there?s an incentive for those who didn?t dole out money before. Take note that the Deathfinitive edition isn?t a collection as it doesn?t include the original title.
If you haven?t played the game before, you should definitely check out this title. If you like RPG?s and hack and slash games, you should consider purchasing this game.
Already Played The Game? Only purchase this remaster if you a slight fancy updated graphics is enough to content you. If you?re a dedicated fan however, you might want to purchase this game to open the possibility of a Darksiders 3 as the original developers actually planned a threequel and Nordic may push through with it if this remaster becomes a success.
Darksiders 2 Deathfinitive Edition Review Round-Up
Here are all the available Metacritic reviews available so far:
God Is A Geek (90/100):? ?Had this been bundled with a remastered version of Darksiders, the package would be perfect. As it stands, it’s just a slightly better version of an already brilliant game.?
VideoGamer (70/100): ?A by-the-numbers remaster, then, and one that would’ve benefited from a bit more love. For those who just wanted to see what all the fuss was about on their Xbox One or PS4, however, it suffices.?
