Dark Souls 3 DLC

Recently, Dark Souls 3 director Hidetaka Miyazaki was interviewed about the upcoming Dark Souls 3 DLCs. Miyazaki talked about the Ashes of Ariandel DLC and gave slight hints on the Dark Souls 3 DLC for early next year. However, the Ashes of Ariandel reveals do not hint a large expansion. Will the upcoming Ashes of Ariandel DLC be a short compared to previous Dark Souls expansions?

Ashes of Ariandel

According to Valfreze?s translation on Reddit of a Japanese IGN article, Miyazaki confirmed that Ashes of Ariandel is an expansive, open field Dark Souls 3 DLC. Previously, the first Dark Souls 3 DLC was intended to be a desert, but snow fields actually fit the game?s aesthetics. Players should expect to travel far stretches of wintery fields instead of exploring castle grounds in this upcoming DLC.

Ariandel?s Content

So far, new spells, weapons, bosses, areas, and quests have been confirmed in the first Dark Souls 3 DLC. New spells and weapons are confirmed, which may be enjoyed by casual and competitive fans. The general Ashes of Ariandel area will have the new snowy terrain map and the PvP arena map that FromSoftware promised. Two new bosses have also been confirmed in the expansion. Lastly, the Knight offering a piece of cloth is the only potential new Quest NPC included in the expansion. Though there?s a lack of particular details, it?s likely that Ashes of Ariandel will be a brief expansion for the game.

Next DLC

Miyazaki also shared details about the second Dark Souls 3 DLC. The Dark Souls 3 director pointed out that the first DLC was focused on pulling off a ?Gothic Horror? theme. Meanwhile, the second Dark Souls 3 DLC is aimed to ?dig deeper? in the vanilla Dark Souls 3 theme and content. Miyazaki also explained that the two combined DLCs will be as large as the Artorias of the Abyss DLC of the first Dark Souls game.

Artorias of the Abyss DLC weighs around 350.57 MB large. Ashes of Ariandel could be smaller if it has the same size as the second DLC. It?s possible that the Artorias of the Abyss content is already in the game and the download will be available through the unlock code. Fans may just have to wait until October 25 to see if Ashes of Ariandel will really be a small addition to Dark Souls 3.
