After the success of The Witcher 3, it’s easy to see why Cyberpunk 2077 has so much hype around it. Developer CD Projekt Red blew expectations with it’s open-world RPG, with many claiming it was the first true next-gen game. While very little has been revealed, it seems like we could be seeing the game before June 2019.
WCCFTech reports that the developers are currently requesting government funds for four different applications that could be related to the RPG. Said applications have a date that the developers want to reach, which is on June 29 2019. Though it could always be delayed, it seems like that is the target goal CD Projekt Red want to reach.
A 2019 release date for Cyberpunk 2077 would be ideal, assuming it actually comes out by then of course. Open-world RPGs take a lot of time to make, which is why The Witcher 3 is so loved. Sure it was delayed multiple times, but it’s numerous Game of the Year awards prove the wait was worth it.
The need for additional funding is a bit sad, but is also a necessary move for CD Projekt Red. Despite plenty of acclaim and sales, the company isn’t as rich as the major gaming corporations like EA or Activision. Here is hoping that the company gets all the money they need, since everybody loved Witcher 3.
The Open-World Future
CD Projekt Red stated that Cyberpunk 2077 would be bigger than Witcher 3, which is a surprise. The fantasy world of The Witcher was always big, but the third game took it to a whole other level. Even though it was the third game in the series, fans that weren’t familiar with previous games still bought it and had fun.
Now that we’re expecting a futuristic world, one can only imagine the possibilities in the new RPG. Intergalactic travel may or may not be in it, since that seems to be Mass Effect’s shtick. One thing we can say is it will definitely be better than the disappointing Technomancer, which tried to be a sci-fi version of Witcher 3.
As of this writing, there seems to be no final release date for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. The game looks like it will be another massive success for the company, so no one will complain about a 2019 release. In the meantime, if you haven’t played Witcher 3, you can do so now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
