Fans hoping for a Cuphead PS4 release are in for some bad news, as the gorgeous shooter has been confirmed as a Microsoft exclusive. PS4 owners were really hoping that the game would be a temporary exclusive to Xbox One and PC, ala Rise of the Tomb Raider, but that isn’t the case. If there’s any Microsoft exclusive that’s going to get people to buy an Xbox One, it is this beautifully crafted side-scrolling shooter.

On NeoGAF, one fan asked the developers if the game is a 100% Microsoft exclusive, and the developers said yes. “Yes, this Cuphead game is exclusive to Xbox and PC (with Steam and Win10 versions at launch and a GoG release likely shortly after),” they explained. “There will likely be a Mac version down the road and possibly a Linux version beyond that (unless we lose our houses or whatever).”

Interestingly enough, they pointed out that they owned the Cuphead IP, so potential spinoffs or sequels could end up in other platforms in the future, as pointed out by Polygon. However, due to the previous answer they gave, it’s easy to assume that any potential sequels will be for the PC and Xbox One. PS4 owners should take comfort in the amount of exclusives the console has, since they won’t be getting the charming cartoon shooter anytime soon.

Cuphead will be released on September 29 for the Xbox One and Windows PC, with Linux and Mac versions possibly coming after. The game had been delayed for several years, since it was originally going to be a boss rush-type game, similar to Furi. Now that it’s due in September, it looks like we will get a more traditional side-scrolling experience, but with beautiful visuals that make the game resemble a creepy 1930’s cartoon.
