The Criminal Minds Season 12 is just around the corner but it seems like it would have to go on with less than a character as recent reports reveal that actor Thomas Gibson is being suspended for an unknown period of time. Will he be cut off from the series?
Gibson, who is playing the role of Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) Chief Aaron ?Hotch? Hotchner, is suspended for an indefinite length of time because of an incident involving him, a producer and a writer of the show. According to TMZ, Gibson had an argument with the production members as he was directing and acting in a scene.
The disagreement had worsened leading to Gibson exploding in anger and kicking the writer in the leg. Obviously, the producer did not let the incident go and immediately talked to the top CBS executives. The network heads took over and suspended Gibson. Although it is still unclear as to how long he will be off the set, sources say that he has been absent for two weeks already, which would indicate an episode or two of not appearing in the show.
However, the real question is will he be cut off from the crime show? As of now, it is not known but back in 2013, CBS also had to deal with the same case involving CSI co-star George Eads. He also had an on-set argument with a writer and as a result, they wrote him off the series for several episodes, which could also be the case for Gibson.
Speaking of Criminal Minds Season 12, the BAU family has just gotten bigger as Aisha Tyler, who plays Dr. Tara Lewis, became a series regular as announced by CBS on Wednesday. It can be recalled that she first appeared in the crime show during the 11th season premiere to fill the void left by the exit of Kate Callahan (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and she is a regular.
Aside from Tyler, Adam Rodriguez has also joined the show as a series regular. His character is going to fill the void left by the original cast member Shemar Moore and will be introduced in the Season 12 premiere. He will play a special agent who is a member of the FBI Fugitive Task Force and will join the BAU. Also, fan favorite Paget Brewster will be back in the installment for some episodes as Emily Prentiss.
