Ever since it was teased in E3, fans have been waiting for the Crash Bandicoot PS4 collection. While no news about the re-release has been given since the E3 announcement, Crash will be a playable character in the upcoming Skylanders: Imaginators. It seems like he won’t be alone though, as it was announced that Neo Cortex, the nemesis of Crash, will be part of the game, along with one level based on the classic game series.
It seems like all the nostalgia for the classic 3D platformer has reached Vicarious Visions. Originally, Crash and Cortex were going to be in the game as guest characters. However, the developers have decided to expand upon that and actually make a whole level as a tribute to the beloved trio of games.
The PlayStation Blog has stated that this level will feature plenty of mechanics that fans of Crash will love, including side scrolling sections and awesome chase sequences. It should work as a nice treat for those excited about the Crash Bandicoot PS4 bundle, while newer fans that are looking forward to Skylanders: Imaginators can give it a chance and fall in love with the character.
Sadly, no new information was given about the upcoming HD re-release of the first three games. It’s not clear how good the graphics will look, since they are games from the original PlayStation. Some fans, though, are hoping that the collection will have completely re-done graphics with the same level design.
While the lack of new Crash news is disappointing, the inclusion of Neo Cortex and a tribute level is a nice touch on the part of Vicarious Visions. It is clear that the developers are fans of the old series and the fact that they are also working on the re-release of the first three games is great news. The developers have also worked on the Game Boy Advance games of the Bandicoot.
The Crash Bandicoot PS4 collection doesn’t have a release date yet, but expect it in an event soon, though it will likely come out next year. In the meantime, Skylanders: Imaginators comes out in October 16 for the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360. ?
