To the surprise of many, it seems like Conan Exiles is a certified hit on Steam, making plenty of money. As a result, the open-world survival game will now be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One in 2018. Part of the reason the game will be coming to current-gen consoles is the success of two similar titles.
Due to the success of Ark: Survival Evolved and 7 Days to Die, we will see another survival open-world game. Thanks to the success of both games, Funcom decided to bring the Conan game to consoles. Expect regular updates and content patches to maximize the potential of the game while also fixing any possible problems.
It seems like the success of Conan Exiles surprised everyone, including Funcom, hence the push for a console version. Considering the lack of anything Conan the Barbarian related in the media, the sudden success of the game caught everyone by surprise. Now that the game will be getting plenty of money, expect extensive support and more features before the console versions get released.
On Funcom’s financial report, the company is eyeing the success of two games that used Early Access. “As part of the evaluation to invest more in the console version, the fact that
competition in the genre on both Xbox and PS4 is limited, has played a major part. So far only ARK and 7 Days to Die have been released on those consoles.”
Additionally, Funcom noted that having Early Access games on PC possibly sparks the interest of console gamers. “Ark sold a reported 1m units in the first week, 2m units in the first 6 months, on Xbox One. Sold 2m units on PS4 in a bit over 2 months. Altogether this indicates that the potential number of sales in the first 2 to 3 years after the Early Access release on PC can be very high.”
Both Ark: Survival Evolved and 7 Days to Die have made gangbusters on consoles, and Conan could as well. Exiles has enough similarities with both titles to draw interest from their fanbase, plus the ones who already like Conan. Prior to this, fans of the Conan series had a last-gen game to play, but now they have something current-gen.
Like all games, Conan Exiles will only continue if the title’s online community is strong for a long time. While that is true for the PC version of the game, it’s not yet sure if that success will follow it on consoles. Still, the chance of getting more fans via these console releases could make the game more popular than it is.
Currently, Ark: Survival Evolved and 7 Days to Die are doing well for themselves, getting numerous updates and patches. Fans might see Exiles as a game trying to copy the success of both titles, but the setting should please many. The “buy once, play forever” strategy has worked well for these types of games and should continue to do so in the near future.
Conan Exiles is coming to Xbox One in Q3 2017 via the Xbox Preview Program. The full release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC will be in Q1 of 2018.
