Christina Grimmie Shooting Update: Suspect Traveled to Orlando to Commit the Crime?

The music industry suffered a shocking tragedy recently as Christina Grimmie, one of the young, up and coming singers today, was shot and killed in Orlando, Florida while she was signing autographs after her concert in the city, as reported by BBC. The 22-year-old singer was a former contestant on the hit US television show ?The Voice? in 2014 and was already a popular YouTube sensation even before that.

According to the same BBC report, the unfortunate incident happened at around 10:45 PM local time as Christina Grimmie was signing autographs for her fans after her concert at The Plaza Live. Orlando police chief John Mina disclosed that the gunman approached the singer while she was doing a meet-and-greet with fans, singing autographs and selling merchandise and opened fire. Grimmie was rushed to the hospital but she would die from her injuries a few hours later.

Not a lot is known about the gunman, who according to a report from CNN shot and killed himself after shooting Grimmie when the latter?s brother tackled him. Slowly though more and more details surface about the shooting incident as well as the suspect involved. The same report does mention that authorities have determine that the suspect is a 21-year-old white male and he apparently traveled to Orlando to perpetrate the crime according to authorities. It is not yet know what the gunman’s motives were for killing the singer, but hopefully soon more details can shed light to this mystery.

The Plaza Live had security for the event but the same CNN report mentions that there were no metal detectors in the entrance to the venue. As a result, the shooter was able to bring two handguns, two extra loaded magazines and a large hunting knife. The police praised Grimmie?s brother, as the gunman could have caused more damaged were it not for him tackling the suspect to the ground.
