Your favorite toasted whole grain cereal might be missing from your local store after Cheerios recalled 1.8 million boxes when it was found that wheat and flour was included in the supposedly gluten-free cereal. Here?s everything you need to know about General Mills? Cheerios recall:
A total of 1.8 million boxes were voluntarily recalled by manufacturer General Mills. Due to human error, wheat flour was accidentally placed in their gluten-free oat flour system, president of General Mill?s cereal division Jim Murphy said per USA Today. This was due in of them needing to distribute the gluten-free oat flour from rail cars because they had lost rail service for a some time.
Only their plant at Lodi in California was affected by the problem. Both Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios were recalled after the issue. The recall has affected a total of four days production of the original Cheerios and 13 days production for Honey Nut Cheerios, USA Today reported.
How To Identify
General Mills has elaborated on their website how to identify boxes that are being recalled. For the Honey Nut Cheerios, those with label ?Best if used by? dates July 12 to 25, 2016 contain gluten. For the Yellow Box Cheerios, it?s the one with ?best if used by? dates July 14 to 17, 2016.

Doesn?t Matter If You?re Not Allergic
According to the company, only those who are sensitive to gluten or wheat should be wary of the issue. ?These products would be safe for people without celiac or who are not gluten intolerant or sensitive to wheat or gluten- and that would include most consumers.?
