Kobe Bryant and LeBron James face off one last time at the Staples Center when the Cleveland Cavaliers visit Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, March 10. The match kicks off at 10.30 p.m. ET and you can check here for sites live streaming the match.
With Kobe set to retire at the end of the season, it will be the last time that fans could get a chance to enjoy the experience of seeing two of the greatest NBA players go against each other. The Cleveland Cavaliers are confident of winning big after starting off their road trip on Wednesday night with a win against the formidable Sacramento Kings.
The Lakers, on the other hand, have been struggling so far this season, but the team comes on the heels of a surprising three-game winning streak including a huge win at home against the NBA defending champions Golden State Warriors.
However, it is unclear if Kobe will be seeing action in this game. According to the LA Times, there?s a 50% chance that he may not play on Thursday against Cleveland, citing a nagging shoulder injury.
In fact, Kobe has skipped 40% of the games at the Staples Center since announcing his retirement and playing 96% of the games outside Los Angeles.
Kobe also sat out Tuesday’s nondescript home game against Orlando but played two days earlier against front-running Golden State in a nationally televised game.
This matchup, however, pits him against James one last time and that could be motivation enough for Kobe to suit up for the celebrity-laden homecrowd. Kobe sank 17 points in a 111-120 loss in Cleveland on February 10. James also upstaged him with 29 points and 11 assists then.
With Kobe questionable for the last matchup between the superstars, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell will lead the Lakers Thursday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Los Angeles (14-51) owns the worst record in the Western Conference but is showing signs of their old self after stunning Golden State, 112-95, on Sunday and beating Orlando, 107-98, two days later.
Kobe sat out against the Magic with a nagging shoulder injury, leaving Randle, Clarkson and Russell to combine for 74 points. They had 58 against the Warriors, while Randle added 14 boards.
While the Cavaliers are aiming for their first NBA title, the Lakers are trying to match their longest win streak of the season, set December 30-January 3. But, it remains to be seen if Los Angeles can come back as a team to be reckoned with.
