Carlos Beltran to Rangers & Other Last Minute MLB Trade Deadline Deals

Carlos-Beltran

The Texas Rangers snatched a big one in Carlos Beltran in the last minute of the MLB Trade Deadline. Beltran is known to be a switch hitter. The nine-time Major League Baseball (MLB) All Star could boost the Ranger?s lineup. He was traded for Dillon Tate, the Ranger?s first round draft pick. Tate was also the fourth overall pick in the 2015 draft. He was just behind Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman and Brendan Rodgers.

This trade, according to Wallace Matthews of ESPN, is a signal that the New York Yankees are hoisting up a ?white flag? for the 2016 season. Beltran is the team?s best hitter and letting him go for three minor league pitchers indicates a rebuild than a title run. The Yankees did not only acquire Tate but also two right-handed pitchers in Nick Green and Erik Swanson.

Beltran led the Yankees with a .304 batting average, 22 home runs and 64 RBIs. He is an offensive force that will be missed. He also brings a veteran?s presence on the table. This is an intangible that could affect the dynamic of the team. On the other hand, Tate has been ?bad? according to Matt Snyder of CBS Sports. For only 17 outings in Class A, Tate recorded a WHIP of 1.62, a 5.40 ERA with only 55 strikeouts in 65 innings. He allowed 78 hits in these 65 innings. Tate though brings youth and potential to the table as he is only 22 and is perceived to have a high ceiling.
