Since the third phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe started, classic characters like Iron Man and Captain America have slowly stepped aside to welcome other superheroes into the picture. Among the newcomers who have yet to get a shot at the big screen is Captain Marvel. While we’ve already had Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and Gamora as heroines, Brie Larson’s character holds the biggest deal yet among the female group.
Not only will she be the first female character to headline a movie, Carol Danvers will, more importantly, play a pivotal role in Phase 3’s final movie Avengers: Infinity War as well. But what role does she exactly have that makes her that important?
If you haven’t noticed, Marvel has set its Cinematic Universe to range from Earth to space and it turns out Captain Marvel will close the gap between the two worlds. In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Larson revealed: “Well, quite simply, she’s kind of like the bridge between these two worlds. She’s the bridge between what’s happening up in space and what’s happening down on Earth.”
Up until now, the Guardians of the Galaxy (space side) and The Avengers (Earth side) have been separate entities despite sharing the same universe. Both groups are no doubt popular so bringing them together would definitely be glorious.
Now, you may be asking: how would Captain Marvel do this? The answer lies in her origin. Spoilers ahead!
Who is Captain Marvel?
For those who do not know, Carol Danvers was originally a member of the United States Air Force. However, she wound up being present during the explosion of a device created by the Kree (an alien race you may remember from Guardians of the Galaxy). As a result of this accident, her human genes were fused with those of a Kree. She gained superhuman abilities, ultimately giving birth to her alter-ego Captain Marvel.
It remains to be seen whether or not Danvers already have them in Infinity War which debuts prior to the Captain Marvel movie. Either way, Captain Marvel is tipped to be one of the strongest in the MCU. Marvel’s head honcho, Kevin Feige, previously revealed that “Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had.”
Actually looking forward to this, think Brie Larson is good actress, and think Captain Marvel will be suprise top movie like doctor strange #marvelcomics #marvel #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #captainmarvel #brielarson #avengers #avengersinfinitywar #infinitywar #marvellegends #disney #captainmarvelmovie #marvelmovies
However, she won’t be a silhouette-perfect cutout icon, just like the rest of the existing superheroes. Feige explained that “all of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them” and Danvers is no exemption.
