Earlier this month, we speculated that Marvel is killing off a major character, and we truly thought it?s going to be Captain Rogers in Captain America: Civil War. But now we?ve got a good reason to believe to change our minds.

First the early speculations:

Well first is that the only way to give new life from the otherwise formulaic plots of the recent Marvel movies, was to kill off a major character.

Of course, we all need a hero to save the world, but it was only Captain America, particularly in the Winter Soldier, which brought a refreshing twist to the world of Marvel Superheroes.

And of course, there are the theories. Moviepilot shared that for the audience to further connect to the characters, Marvel needs a death that they can actually empathize.

?I know what you guys are thinking, Quicksilver’s death mattered. But if you think about it, it really didn’t. Quicksilver was one of the new avengers, so we really didn’t know him that well, and when he died, I really didn’t care. But if someone like Captain America were to die in Civil War, it would be heart breaking.?

Screen Crush on the other hand, speculated death as well based on reports a few months back. According to the site, Captain America: Civil War was filming at the Peachtree Christian Church with extras dressed in all black funeral wear. Of course, it?s not sure who actually died in the scene, but it was also reported that the Cap himself was wearing a black tuxedo.

Cinema Blend on the other hand, spoke about how directors Joe and Anthony Russo teased a potential subtitle for the third Captain America movie: Fallen Son. For those unfamiliar, Fallen Son was the name of a five-issue mini series that looked at how different Marvel superheroes reacted to Cap?s death following Civil War.

Captain America: Civil War Rumor — He Lives!

Now here?s why we think he will live. Lately, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been quite loyal to its comic book origins, and today we just saw the second installment to the Civil War drama between Captain America and Iron Man. Comicbook.com was just given an exclusive of the Civil War 2 cover design ? and it clearly depicts Rogers and Stark in another famous off.

Civil War #2, the Secret Wars series is from writer Charles Soule and Artist Leinil Francis Yu. If the movie follows the book to a tee, then we?ll see more of the Cap in other Marvel movies ? he will live!

More speculations!

Now here?s where it gets interesting: Based on the comic book cover, the Civil War series will further divide our favorite heroes. On Roger?s side is Spider-Man or was it Venom? The Cap?s best friend on the other hand, Bucky ?The Winter Soldier? Barnes has clearly haven?t gotten over what happened to him and decided to team-up with Stark.

Captain America: Civil War is showing in theatres May 2016.
